David joined Invictus Triathlon Club and started racing in Triathlon in 2016, returning to sport having previously played football and rugby, initially to regain his fitness after a long lay off from sport. He quickly regained his love for sport and knew he wanted to develop further as a triathlete completing his first sprint triathlon, competing at all distances in the UK and Europe, and successfully completing Ironman in 2018 and 2019. Having spent much of professional life coaching and developing people, including coaching junior football, it was a natural transition into Triathlon Coaching, completing is BTF level 1 coaching in 2018, and starting his BTF level 2 coaching qualification in 2019.
In David’s words
Having found my passion for sport again through Triathlon, I wanted to put something back in the sport and the club so undertook my level 1 coaching qualification, and currently undertaking my level 2 to enable me to support the club and my fellow athletes. Due to my experience in developing people professionally, I understand there is not a ‘one size fits all’ approach to coaching which I use and I get a great sense of personal reward, developing and coaching people, whatever their sporting goals, but also enjoy seeing people grow individually to embrace all aspects of the sport.
