Junior FAQs

What is triathlon?

Triathlon is a sport that involves swimming, cycling and running continuously in a swim/bike/run format.

It is governed by the British Triathlon Federation, who also govern the following related sports:

  • Aquathlon / Aquathon – swimming and running continuously in a swim/run format.
  • Duathlon – running and cycling in a continuous run/bike/run format.

Members of ITC juniors are encouraged to participate in all of the above sports.

The ‘fourth discipline’ of triathlon is transition, where you change from pool to bike, pool to run or bike to run, depending on the event.

How old must my child be to join the club?

Children can start competing in events in the year in which they turn 8. In other words, they need to be 8 by the 31st of December. We do not accept members of a younger age.

How does my child join the club?

Membership is through an online form.  Please see our Membership  page for details and to apply.

What ability does my child have to demonstrate? What standard is required?

We are a fully-inclusive club. We welcome all children of all abilities and walks of life. Children can access a range of events, both non-competitive and competitive. We want all our members to enjoy sport, so come along and try it out!

Note that for swimming, members are required to be able to swim 50m unassisted to participate in coached swimming sessions.  We are not able to provide swimming lessons for non-swimmers.

I would like my child to come for a taster session / trial what do I need to do?

You’re very welcome to come along to club sessions. We do not have trials because we believe that every child should be able to access sport opportunities. Just email juniors@Invictustriathlonclub.com to arrange the most appropriate session(s) to try out.

When are the sessions?

Please visit the Training page for details on session times and details of anything you need to bring.

How much do the sessions cost?

Many sessions are free, but we do need to charge for certain sessions to cover the cost to the club of using the venue.  Please see our Training page for details of any session costs.
